Collections:
The Maine State Archives hold roughly 95 million pages of archived state records. The records that are permanently maintained by the Archives include bills introduced in the Legislature, Governor’s Executive Orders, election returns, deeds to and from the State of Maine, maps from the Land Office, vital statistics, federal census records from Maine up to 1920, county court records dating back to the 1600s, military records through World War I, Attorney General and State Supreme Court opinions.
Also in the collections are birth, death, marriage and other genealogical records, judicial and county court records that date back to 1639, deeds, maps, and other land office records, legislative and military records, and town histories.
Facilities:
The Maine State Archives shares the Maine State Cultural Building with the Maine State Museum and the Maine State Library. The Maine State Cultural Building is in Augusta, Maine, and is located across from the State Building. It was built in 1971.
